WWII Allied commander and US president, 1953–1961; the MJ-12 papers claim to be a 1952 alien-craft briefing prepared for him.

What is Dwight D. Eisenhower known for?

Dwight D. Eisenhower was supreme commander of the Allied forces in western Europe during World War II and the 34th President of the United States from 1953 to 1961. His administration covered the early Cold War, Atoms for Peace, and the build-up of the National Security Council as a policy body.

Eisenhower turns up in UFO lore mainly through the MJ-12 documents, which surfaced in the 1980s. They include a supposed top secret briefing for President-elect Eisenhower dated November 18, 1952, describing a secret committee formed to study a recovered extraterrestrial craft.

The FBI called the documents bogus and an Air Force investigation found the briefing to be a fake. The National Archives, discussing a related 1954 memo, notes that Eisenhower's appointment books show no special meeting on the date the memo names. Historians treat the Eisenhower briefing as a forgery.
