The pharaoh who brought Egypt to the height of its power, later the subject of the 'Tulli Papyrus' UFO story.

What is Thutmose III known for?

Thutmose III ruled from 1479 to 1425 BCE. For the first years of his reign Hatshepsut governed with him, then took the throne as king herself. After her death he led more than a dozen campaigns into Syria-Palestine, starting with the victory at Megiddo, and Britannica credits him with bringing Egypt to the height of its power. His campaigns are recorded in annals carved at Karnak.

In 1953 Boris de Rachewiltz published in the Fortean Society's magazine Doubt a 'translation' of the so-called Tulli Papyrus, said to describe 'circles of fire' in the sky in Thutmose III's reign. He later admitted he had never seen the papyrus, only notes said to have been made by Alberto Tulli of the Vatican Museums. No papyrus has ever been produced, researchers have traced phrases in the text to Alan Gardiner's 1927 Egyptian Grammar, and it is widely regarded as a hoax.
